Ever since that big wind event in Oklahoma City, my cable channels will break-up every so often, but not at all times. When the cable channels are going wacky, my modem signal levels are also kinda bad. For example around 9pm:
[att=1]
Then around 10pm, things are back to normal:
[att=2]
It's like something is introducing noise into the line but I'm not changing anything I'm doing. The same equipment is active in my apartment and so on. Seems to happen during primetime the most which would mean a tech coming out would never see the issue. Thoughts?

Trouble moving from business to residential - need a tech
Well, after years of very solid and reliable cox business internet and phone, I switched over to the residential service. My 2 year contract ended, and my price doubled.
My home phone number was originally with at&t, and I ported it over to cox business. I have now been trying unsuccessfully to port it from cox business to cox residential. I have spent hours on the phone, and folks have been very nice, but noone can figure out how to port the number.
I'm over a week now with my old phone number not working. If any of the cox techs can look into this i would appreciate it.

[OK] Cox "Panorama" & TG1682GP2
Called in to sort billing issues out.. Was offered modem upgrade over a year old ubee. Got a new panorama tg1682gp2 shipped to me. It that gives 7 Mbps download and 30 Mbps upload over cat6 ethernet (had 0 issues and 150D/10U on ubee just hours before the modem change) On speedtest.net + multiple different server tests and the golden softlayer dallas test site.. / And weirdly enough wifi gives max 55D/12U on the tg1682gp2. Pings/routing seem fine.-- Called in had it reprovisioned and "refreshed", hard reset with pin etc.. Told to either get a possible charge? For a tech to come out to fix or go in to exchange the modem gateway for a different one at the store when they open Monday. (a good 30 mile drive)
Read some posts about the TG1682 having issues with 10/100 devices.. but my ethernet ports on the computer is 1gbps.
Figured there might be a firmware update or something and if I left it connected for an hour or two then power cycled the modem so that it might update. No luck.

New people to this thread - PLEASE READ THE THREAD In the next 23 PAGES of thread LOTS of experts have looked at the postings, its been verified and vetted.Its kinda like a peer reviewed scientific paper now as others have also reproduced the results using different methods on different cable systems. CORRECTION TO BELOW. Max Linear has nothing to do with this issue. This is a INTEL issue.Sorry Max Linear.

The Arris / Intel Acknowledgment is covered on "THIS PAGE"
So. I was excited to upgrade from my Arris SB6183 to the Arris SB6190. We have 32 x 8 service in phoenix While they do not have gigabit turned on yet, the infrastructure is turned on and ready.
I was really surprized when the SB6190 clearly performed noticeably worse. My levels are awesome. My errors on all 32 channels are nil. YET browsing the web was noticeably slower and kinda stuttery. I went back to the SB6183. Way better. Back to the SB6190, clearly worse.
Then I noticed that gaming latency to local servers had doubled ?! And was highly jittery..
I run Multiping doing 3 pings a second to my Cox CMTS and run that 24/7 and chart that. I have for 8 years. I was SHOCKED at what i saw.
A HUGE MESS. Latency thru this modem DOUBLED. Not only that but had 250ms spikes every few seconds.
This renders this modem and any device based on the Intel Puma6 / MaxLinear FSC Full-Spectrum Capture technology wholly unsuited for gaming and questionable for ANY home use. I will expand on this further down in this post. I need to point out that Max Linear might be clear of this issue and it might just be a Intel issue.
This is a 8 hour plot. This is to my CMTS. I have YEARS of plot before this.
[att=1]
This led to a 3 day exploration of the issue. I got Cox to update my firmware. I swapped back and forth 8 times between the devices.
CLEARLY its the modem. I am a EE. I design electronics. So I decided to really understand this issue.
The problem is extreme and, frankly, horrific. Arris and Intel Puma6/MaxLinear traded off speed for latency thinking no one would notice. They tossed latency out the window to get 32 bonded channels of speed. They tossed users under the bus as no user is really gonna use 1gbps BUT they will feel the latency and latency jitter in DNS lookups. Gamers will loose games because of random 250ms spikes in latency every few seconds.
Really its obvious from the front of the box that they intend to deceive. "speeds up to 1.4Gbs" .. REALLY ? Using a 1 Gbs ethernet link ? Wow, they defy physics on a 1 Gbps Ethernet link. 1Gbps is the MAX you can EVER EVER get out of this modem. Period. So from the box there was BS. I have filled a FTC complaint over that. Its a complete lie and highly deceptive.
Looking at the performance closely with 5 minute plots its just more scary.
[att=2]
[att=3]
I had to make the scale bigger just to see the tops of the spikes.
[att=4]
The Jitter, random fluctuations of latency, is HORRIFIC and stunning for any modern device.

[att=6]
_______________________________________________________________
SOOO... OK OK... So how does that effect ME ??? you might ask...
2 ways..
1. Each page you browse has, on average 50 DNS lookups. Each element on the page has to look in a phone book and look up a number to connect to. This is so critical time wise that ISP's like cox maintain a DNS server as close to your house as possible just for speed. THIS MODEM DOUBLES LATENCY FOR THESE LOOK UPS. So EACH LOOK UP TAKES 2.5 times LONGER !. That REALLY ADDS UP. You can see it on page loads. This has a serious effect on simple web browsing.
2. Gaming. FPS gaming - and most types of gaming REALLY rely on short latency. This DOUBLES the latency BEFORE IT EVEN LEAVES YOUR HOUSE. It Also adds a HUGE random spike 2-4 times a second with really bad latency jitter. This will immd and directly effect your gaming in a negative way.
Latency jitter of this large magnitude, 250ms spikes every few seconds, causes other applications to degrade too. Like VoIP and streaming applications.
Sooooo... Intel / MaxLinear HAD TO KNOW ALL THIS. They HAD TO know the latency issues. They figured no one would be able to figure it out and it would allow them to dazzle people with the words "1.4 Gbps"... Well... It did not get by me..

This is a A/B plot to Google. Its SO BAD you can see it in this plot all the way to Google.

So I looked at what was causing the issue.
WAIT, WHAT... Its not a Broadcom chipset !?! What Tha.. Everything else to date has been Broadcom based. Broadcom is DAMN GOOD at this...
Wait its INTEL ?!?! WTF...
[att=10]
Intel... Puma6 / MAX LINEAR...
[att=11]
This led to a WTF moment... Who is MaxLinear... Well..... Turns out looks like some Broadcom guys left Broadcom and created a new company and decided to go at it on their own...
MAX268
Turns out this box is the first box with this new Intel/MaxLinear chip set combo
Soooooo.... While this looks like a Arris SB6183... Inside its NOTHING LIKE IT..
Im posting here in the Cox HSI forum because im a VERY VERY HAPPY Cox customer for over 10 years. This is *NOT* a Cox issue, but one that will effect Cox customers.
DO NOT BUY THIS MODEM.. DO NOT BUY ANY CABLE MODEM/ROUTER BASED ON THIS CHIP..
If your a gamer, DO *NOT* BUY THIS MODEM... Buy a SB6183 and be happy up to 680Mbs with wonderful low latency and zero latency jitter.

Question about Contour 2 Remote Client box
Greetings,
I have a question about the Contour 2 remote client box.
Every day or two, when my box wakes up from Power Saver, I notice that I lose the Fast-Forward/Rewind option on the client box. A message pops up that says the client isn't able to use the functions. If I restart the box and let it come back up, then things resume and work normal.
STB Version: PXD01ANI_2.10p1s1_PROD_sdy.
I also noticed something else tonight when I tried to set up a new Series recording for "The F Word with Gordon Ramsay" I normally schedule recordings to start 1 minute early and to stop recordings 3 minutes late. The only options to stop on this recording were 30 minutes, 1 hour, 1 1/2 hours late, or On Time. Other shows didn't appear to be affected and show the 3, 5 or 30 minute stop buffers.
Edit: Big fingers pushed post before I was ready to submit.

[NV] Bursts of Uncorrectables in Las Vegas
For about the last 2 months, I've been getting bursts of uncorrectables here in Las Vegas (usually in the early-to-mid afternoon). They started about the time I got my SB8200 cable modem, so I thought they were related to that hardware (the SB8200 would lock up and reboot every week or so if the uncorrectables got too high). Last week, I returned to using my old SB6183 cable modem to see if things got better with that. I continue to see small bursts of those uncorrectables. Before last night, 5 channels had 0 and the rest were in the low 3 digits. Sometime last night, I got a bigger burst than normal (pushing some of those uncorrectables into the 5 digits). Is this normal? Is there anything I can do? I've been talking to Cox about this for the last month or so and had them come out to check/replace all the connections between my box and the tap in the ground down the street. I've told them the problem continues, but I don't see how they can find the source since it's sporadic.

[GA] slow internet....maybe
While installing TV to my existing internet and phone account, the Cox technician replaced my existing modem (no sure which it was) with a new Arris TG1682. After he left and just on a whim, I checked my connection speed at the Cox site. I'm on Preferred so I should be getting 50mbps. I was getting between 10-15. I tried Speakeasy and the results were similar.
Today I'm getting somewhat similar numbers, around 18mpbs at Cox and Speakeasy to Atlanta. The test here at dslreports is somewhat higher. On one test I got a 49 and on another a 30.
These numbers have been pretty consistent since about Wednesday this week. dslreports is always higher, but not always where it should be.
Shouldn't I be getting somewhere near 50 on Cox's own test?
Thanks.

[AZ] Gigabit fiber just pulled.
So It's taken about 6 months sense Cox upgraded the peds to the larger ones that support the electronics for fiber plus the legacy cable. They just finally laid down the fiber last week and it looks like it's rolled up one long line rolled up and continues to the next box. I am wondering if it jumps ped to ped.
Wondering how long from when they lay out the fiber until they put the electronics in and I can actually sub to the service?

[VA] Switching from FiOS to Cox
I've had FiOS for almost 4 years now, contract is up soon and it doesn't look like they want to give me a good deal again. On the other hand Cox wants to give me a crazy good deal on a triple play (at least it feels like a good deal) of 300/30 internet + dvr free for 2 years + hbo/showtime/cinemax free for 2 years + free install. The base price is $10/mo less than what I pay now before including all the freebies (like like paying for HBO and Verizon DVR service and equipment will be another $30/mo off).
Anyone else switch from FiOS to Cox have an opinion on the service quality? I'm in the Northern Virginia market if that makes a difference. FiOS has been rock solid on internet and I do game a lot and regularly get faster than my 75/75 speed, their DVR equipment is pretty terrible though.

Cox Cloud Service
Anyone know about this being closed down? My PC software was directed to a general page at Cox rather than my stored backed up files. Customer Service Agent said it was shut down today. Agent said "he was told" email was sent out on May 23. 2 weeks notice seems a little slim if true. Was there any notice anyone got on this? I've gone back on every bill and email and find nothing. If reasonable notice was given and I missed it, that's on me, but if it wasn't or was that sudden, just dropping access to backed up files isn't what I'd call very well planned or how a large corporation implements this type change.

[OK] Slow Early Morning Internet
I live in OKC and have noticed the past 4 days, my Internet is very slow from 6am to about 8am. It then seems to get back to a reasonable speed and stays that way. I called Tech Support on the initial day and was told "they may be doing some work in the area", and then again on the 3rd day, but there was not indication of "work being done". In both calls, they refreshed my modem, which did not help immediately, but as on all days it eventually came back to "normal" around 8am. Has anyone else in this area experienced anything like this? I tend to believe it is Cox and not my equipment, but it does make me wonder. I turn the pc's off about 11pm and on again about 6am daily, but leave the modem and router turned on 24hrs. Any comments of what I possibly need to do (other than stay in bed until after 8am) will be appreciated. Guess I'm too up-tight.

A question before the install this week
Install appointment set up for this Thursday. We're scheduled also to receive Cox' Panoramic WiFi gateway which will hopefully do the trick in our 2500 sq foot house without the need of access points, repeaters or extenders, but that's another story.
Got the two remaining 48 inch Sonys mounted on the wall (a lesson learned from last August's flood) when I noticed that possibly the optical audio jack but definitely the HDMI ARC input is blocked by the mount. Way to go, Sony. TVs are Sony KDL48W650D's, with 200 X 200 Vesa configuration.
The Sony User Manual (where the configuration isn't even mentioned---I had to search their site for *any* VESA info on this TV) recommends that the set top box be plugged into the HDMI ARC input. Unless the current obstruction is removed or mitigated, what, if any, negative results are likely to occur by plugging the Cox Contour into the other remaining HDMI port?
I won't even ask about the sound bar and "wireless" rear surround speakers.

Seems Cox is going to raise prices again in January and I called and am trying to cut as much as I can because I don't watch all the tv I pay for.
But, I was told that $5 of the increase is for internet and that they were automatically going to increase my speed from 50 to 100. Great but I don't need that speed and don't want to pay for it.

[OK] Cox Installing Fiber in SE Norman?
Let me start out saying that I live in a large apartment complex on the Southeast side of Norman. It was built a few years abo. We've had ATT fiber for over a year now. Contractors have been hanging line from in town and arrived just outside our complex today. The wire is fiber. Anyone know if that might be Cox installing fiber to the southeast side of town? A relatively large new neighborhood is going up across Highway 77, so that might be why.
